About four years ago my Sunday school class, Christian Living Today, was studying the Prayer of Jabez. Part of what we talked about was that it is okay to pray for things for yourself. I was used to praying for others in their time of need, but praying for myself was a bit of a new concept.

Well, about eleven years ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. That is another whole story, but not the point of this one. I was helped some by the medical doctor in Galesburg who diagnosed me, but still continued to have a lot of pain and fatigue. The pain in my legs was horrible at times and many places on my body hurt just to be touched. I tried to keep a positive attitude, and most people did not know of my suffering. During this time period, my mom was seeing a chiropractor named Dr. TerBeek who also did CRA. Mom had told him my story and he told her he could help me. Just come see him. So for about two years I had it in the back of my mind that I needed to do this. I would get dangerously tired when driving, so it was easy for me to keep putting this off, as it would mean driving to Galesburg.

Okay, back to Sunday school. One night I was going for a walk by myself. As I was walking, I started thinking about what I had learned through the Prayer of Jabez. I started praying for myself and that somehow the Lord would touch me and help me feel better. That week I found out I had to go to Galesburg for a CPR class to update instructors. I thought, "Maybe I’ll try to get in to see that doctor in the afternoon." To make a long story short I did see him that day. He said, "Give me a year and you won’t have any pain." I followed through with his regimen and in a year I was next thing to pain free. It turns out that Dr. TerBeek is a Christian also, and I know the Lord placed him in my life when I needed him. All I had to do was ask.

"Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request." – 1 Chronicles 4:10
